my parents closed the cafe early today so we could drive down to quincy for lunch at taipei cuisine and then grocery shopping at the good fortune supermarket. this would be our third visit. the first time we ate there was back june, after an exhausting day where my mother was taking a CPA training class and after we went shopping at good fortune. the second time was a month later, where we brought my sister and her godmother.

li was gone this morning, having left for a badminton tournament. i rode my bike to the cafe around 1pm. my sister drove us in her car, the backseat covered in a thick coat of dog hair impossible to clean with a portable vacuum. traveling on the turnpike and 93, it took us just 28 minutes to get to taipei cuisine.

i tried some of the hickory nuts i found yesterday in the fells. they are extremely hard to open, i had to use a meat tenderizer mallet to break it open, and a few times the nut managed to pop out. i was surprised to find the actual nut shaped like a condensed walnut. it had a sweet mellow taste, with a fragrant smokiness i've never tasted in other nuts before. actually not too bad, but too hard to crack open!
