i told my roommate if he wasn't doing anything today that he could take his own private tour of boston. but one look at the morning temperature - 20°F - and he decided to stay indoors instead. as for me, i was on my way to my parents to a quiet afternoon of HDTV and then dinner. the few days of melting actually helped; i noticed a lot more bike lanes were now free again, although littered with broken pieces of asphalt, leftover sand, and pieces of frozen trash previously buried by all that snow.

every week i water the rosemary plants wintering in the sun room. when i let hailey out into the backyard, i took a shovel and dug up some frozen poop littering the still snow-covered backyard. despite the still cold temperature, there were spring signs. 3 weeks ago there was a large loaf of snow bread on top of the picnic table; today most of that was gone. around the edges of the yard bare ground was beginning to peek out again and in some spots i even saw the grass underneath.

i had some rice noodles for lunch. i helped my father order a new stacked washer dryer for my great uncle (an appliance repairman came by and said the old one wasn't worth saving). i watched pandorum (2009) again on one of the premium movie channels.

i came back to cambridge to watch the NBA all stars game (i read an article that referred to the NBA all stars weekend as "black thanksgiving"). i thought victor was going to watch it with me, but i didn't see him the whole night. he was in his room with the light on but i didn't hear any noises, so maybe he was asleep. the west dominated most of the game, but the east made a serious run in the final minutes to pull it within 2 points. but the offensive-minded west was just too much to handle and they won it in the end, 148-143.
