i checked out my acurite remote temperature/humidity sensor. i replaced the batteries, but the temperature and humidity were both still wrong (they should in theory match the numbers from the indoor weather station). the manual said it might take as long as 5 minutes to completely sync up so i left the sensor indoors to let it calibrate.

i didn't really feel it yesterday but definitely felt it today: the streets were totally empty due to the holiday. temperature was it was 10 degrees warmer from yesterday, but still cold. driving is so much easier than riding the bicycle or the motorcycle, protected from the elements, listening to the radio, carrying whatever i want without worrying about how to pack them.

hailey was in belmont, i let her outside to use the bathroom before i came back inside for lunch in the form of leftover homemade dumplings. i used some of my chili oil, which i now think isn't that good. yes, it's fragrant, but it's not spicy at all, and i made chili oil because i want it to be hot. i grabbed a can of seltzer from the sunroom, and was surprised when i tasted some thin shards of ice crystals inside the can. the sunroom isn't that cold - about 48 degrees - but it does feel like a walk-in freezer.

i felt a little off today. i woke up with a raspy throat and a bit light-headed. at first i thought it was just dehydration, but even after downing several cans of seltzer, i still felt like i had motion sickness. i also felt cold, and my body a bit achy. so i ended up taking a covid test, which said i was negative. maybe it's not covid, maybe it's the flu (although i did get my flu shot).

today there was a bunch of basketball and football games on tv. a bunch of football games were on yesterday (saturday), and i thought it was because they wanted to maximize viewership, but i now realize the NFL did it on purpose so the bulk of personnel and players could spent christmas with their families. only 3 pairs of teams were selected for christmas showcase. on the NBA front, they scheduled the most games ever for christmas, 5 games stretching from the morning all the way into the late evening.

i caught the celtics game against the bucks, boston soundly beating milwaukee, 139-118. bucks were without khris middleton, who's out with a knee injury.

for dinner my father grilled some salted fish and my mother made chicken soup noodles. we also had the pineapple i got from star market on thursday, it was pretty sweet. i was going to ride home but my father gave me a ride back to cambridge, given my weakened state.

when i got back, i saw that the weather station sensor was still reading the wrong temperature. i ended up switching it to the C-channel, which seemed to have fixed the temperature, but the humidity was still off. i was ready to buy a brand new sensor when i discovered that the weather station can actually manually adjusted the temperature and humidity. so i basically just matched the outdoor sensor with the readings from the indoor station.

i felt a bit better after getting home, after a hot shower. i'm going to go to bed early, hopefully a good night's rest will also help me recover.
