2017

i brought my parents to the malden 99 asian supermarket this afternoon. it was easier to get there this time around, my second visit, as i learned from my mistakes from my previous trip. straight down medford street, a quick left-right to connect to cross street. right turn after the 1st park. left turn after the 2nd park. it was a hot day the temperature was sweltering on the large flat black asphalt parking lot. my parents were impressed by the size of the place and kept discovering new foods they'd never seen before elsewhere, but they weren't impressed with the price, especially the produce. seeing it through their eyes, the place lost some luster in my outlook was well. you can't deny they have a vast selection, but the price and the distance makes it a place we won't visit often. one thing my mother was very excited to see were tatung rice cookers on sale, including the all stainless steel one she's been raving about. but i told her we could find it cheaper online, and the one in the store was just 6-cups which seemed awfully small, so we'd buy a 11-cup if we did get one.
