i stopped by the cafe in the afternoon to put my motorcycle through the final steps of winterization: jack up the bike (relieves pressure on the wheels), oil the chain, run empty the carburetor, then cover up the bike. unfortunately we ran into problems. for some reason the wooden fence door to the backyard was locked from the inside. when my father tried getting into the backyard through the house, the door through my sister's room was locked (she wasn't home at the time), and so was the upstairs door into the adjoining stairwell (total fire hazard). i ended up having to use the handtruck as a stepladder and climbed over the fence to open it from the other side. turns out it wasn't locked, but whoever closed it last must've jammed the locking mechanism.

elevating the bike with the jack is a 2-person job: one person on the bike to make sure it doesn't topple over, the other person raising it up slowly with the jack. once the the bike was raised i decided to postpone winterization, because i'd forgotten the key at my parents' place, so i couldn't drain the carburetor. i would have to return at some future date to finish up.
