the highlight of my day was some much anticipated buffalo wings for dinner. i wasn't craving too much american food while i was away in china, simply because there were a lot of delicious local things to eat. but maybe every once in a while i might think about american foods, and buffalo wings would definitely be on the top of my food list. i actually thought about going to wing works (somerville) yesterday but was too lazy to go out. but today i had the whole day to psyche myself up. when evening finally came around, i biked down to davis square. i could've called for delivery, but i wanted to brave the cold and the dark and unseen potholes, just so i could check out the menu and see what else they had. when i finally got there i was all excited, but then i saw the name of the restaurant: shawarma place. my worst fear was realized: the wings place had gone out of business! dejected, i was getting ready to leave, but i didn't want to go home empty-handed (i was pretty hungry angry) so i bought an $8 lamb-beef shawarma. it was okay, but served in a thin wrap instead of pita bread. and the meat seemed overly-processed. definitely not as good as wings though. now the only local wings place i know is wings over somerville, which is nowhere as good: wings too small, cold sauce, and expensive portions. i need to find myself a new wings place. wing wings is a local institution. it was our favorite wings place when i went to tufts back in the mid-90's. now davis square is all gentrified, so it doesn't surprise me that a wings place got squeezed out.
