there's always something to do in my parents' backyard, especially this time of the year: weeded some more dandelions (especially the ones that haven't bloomed yet and are camouflaged in the grass); i watered the plants (multiple times, the dry dirt quickly drinks up the water); pruned a bit of the maple tree (up on a step ladder with pruning shearers and a saw); mixed the opened compost bin to the best of my ability; planted some more daisy and delphinium seeds; moved the straight ladder to side of the yard (for storage); and replanted 3 over-wintering rosemaries (the 4th and last one is a bit diseased so i might just leave it in a pot).

it was another warm 70's day, which is only a prelude to the next 2 days which will feature temperature in the 80's. the big boston marathon news is they'll exempt any runners who may feel like they won't be able to withstand the heat and can run again next year. i'm going to watch the marathon tomorrow; i haven't been to one in 3 years. i'm hoping the extreme heat will heighten the drama. i'm going to my usual spot in newton via bicycle, my first time (in years past i've gone by car or motorcycle). it'll take about 30 minutes leaving from my parents' place. i'll spend some time later tonight memorizing the route i'm going to take.

while confirming birthday movie marathon plans, elias told me that the wendy's in central square has closed. first they took away my kentucky fried chicken and now my wendy's? why must cambridge wage war on fast food? now the closest wendy's from my house is almost 3 miles away in malden.

in the 5th episode of mad men we have the return of scumbag pete campbell. i'd almost forgotten why i hated him until tonight. first he tried to pick up that teenage girl in his driver's ed class, then he slept with a prostitute (how could anyone cheat on alison brie?!), and finally he got into a fist fight with lane pryce. in this episode, joan returns to the office. has she been there earlier? maybe i wasn't paying attention, but it's nice to see her back at work.
