i still worked most of the day but a bit more relaxed once i passed a significant programming hurdle. it had something to do with the display object in actionscript 3 (as3), how i wasn't able to drill down to the object i wanted. i searched online for an answer but found nothing. finally, after some trial and error, i got lucky and all the pieces fell into place. i'm at the point where basically i have all my coding done and now just waiting for the client to provide me with some movies and updated graphics. i've got 2 days to add the movies, which is more than enough time. at this rate, i may not have to work on friday and if the weather's nice i might go do some spring naturing.

working with as3 these past few days, i'm getting a better feel for the language. for one thing it's very strict and a program just won't compile if there's even just one error. everything's case sensitive too. i guess it forces you to be more disciplined, something quite different from director lingo, where variables don't have to be declared, nothing's case sensitive, and interactives will run despite bugs. i'm glad i'm jumping into actionscripting with 3.0, and not have to relearn it again had i started with 2.0, because there are a lot of differences between the two versions (enough that 3.0 feels like a different language altogether).

i wasn't very hungry today, just had the rest of my tunafish sandwich for lunch, then some toaster oven pizza for dinner. i was going to make spaghetti but wanted to keep it light.

two big news today: the boil water alert was finally lifted (my parents found out about it via reverse 911, it didn't affect me since i live in cambridge) and the FBI caught the time square car bomb suspect. good news all around!
