i watched the michael jackson memorial on television this afternoon. all the major networks plus the news channels were broadcasting the live event. there were some stirring moments, but when michael jackson's daughter paris was up on stage and told the world she loves her daddy, i lost it. as much as we want to mythologize MJ, we fail to remember that he's also a son, a brother, and a father, with real human connections to people that doesn't involve performing or being a superstar.

a rainy day meant i was grounded. starting to feel that a rainy day is normal and a sunny day is actually unusual. i bumped into bruce while putting on my motorcycle rain cover. he was deciding whether to walk or drive to the cheese store. the one productive thing i did today was sign up with a mail order drug company and left a voicemail with my doctor to let him know where to send my refill prescription. my new insurance might not completely cover my avapro so i may end up paying more than when i was with blue cross, but i'm still saving overall.

the scifi channel officially became the syfy channel today, some sort of branding marketing ploy that i don't quite understand. i hope this doesn't mean a future of wrestling and law & order reruns. with the new name change came a new show, warehouse 13. it's like a cross between friday the 13th (that 80's horror series about cursed antiques), x-files, special unit 2, and every other buddy cop series that involves a straight-laced lady investigator paired with a loose-cannon male partner. it's worth watching, but the 2 hour premiere was sort of meh.
