my sister picked me up today so we could go to the watertown best buy and replace the belkin router - which has since stopped working - with another brand. while my sister went to return the merchandise, i bought a d-link router and waited in the long line to pay. back at my parents' place i set up the new router. although on the box it said it was compatible with both PC's and macs, its mac solution wasn't as elegant and easy as the belkin: on the belkin there was a wizard application that walked you through the process, but the only thing available for d-link was just a pdf file. not a big deal anyway since i've set these things manually before. it didn't work at first, but after several restarts i got the network up and running. now's just a waiting game to see if this router will crap out like the two previous ones.

in the evening i went to kristine's farewell party at jillian's. i haven't been there in a while (first and only time was three years ago). i remembered it used to be a fancier version of the infamous good time emporium in somerville, but since then they've renovated and the place has become more upscale, with pool tables on the 2nd floor and a bowling lane on the 3rd. kristine and her boyfriend brian are moving down to austin, texas in a few days. this seems like deja vu because 2 years ago kristine was supposed to move to portland, oregon. originally we gathered there to do some bowling but all the lanes were reserved, so we went downstairs and got a pool table instead. i stuck around long enough to be the last people leaving, and grabbed the T back home to cambridge.
