exchanging money here in shanghai is like visiting the DMV: i had to take a number and waited an hour before they called me. in the morning i visited huaihai road, the more posh shopping district of shanghai. i wasn't there to buy anything though, i was there to check out some old french concession architecture. i came back to the apartment to get my plane ticket for yichang and to meet mr.zhang for lunch before he left shanghai. we went to a sichuan restaurant, where it was one spicy dish after another. afterwards i went to the library across the street from where i live to get some old school internet access (it wasn't free, still RMB$2, and the computers were windows 98 machines). i returned to nanjing donglu and waited along the bund for the sunset. later i walked back to people's square, where ladies would whisper "nihonjin desu ka?" to me when i passed by. i don't think i'm doing something right if i don't get solicited as least once per night while staying here in shanghai.
