i left my house at 6am in the morning having not slept the entire night before. ang tao waved good bye from the front door of my house as my family drove me to logan airport. i gave up my seat on the flight to chicago - i let a chinese woman sit next to her friend so they could talk to each other - while i upgraded myself to the empty row directly in front. i fell asleep immediately, despite the chatter behind me. the flight from chicago to shanghai was pretty standard: uncomfortable seat, unable to sleep, but it was short, only 16 hours, flying above the arctic circle and siberia (i snapped a few photos from my window seat).
