today was a free day and i wasn't able to take advantage of it. before i even woke up this morning i could hear the rain falling outside. by the time i finally got out of bed, bruce had already wrote me an e-mail saying he didn't feel like going to ponkapoag bog. although it'd stopped raining, i wasn't in the mood either. after a little while though, the sun started to peek out and i decided to try and go after all. i was already on memorial drive when the sky darkened and suddenly started raining. a little drizzle is okay but it was pouring and i had to pull over the motorcycle onto the side of the road and try to wait it out. 10 minutes later, umbrella in hand, watching the soaked runners go by, i gave up and went home. although i could see a clearing, it was impossible to tell when it'd stop raining. i was completely drenched by the time i made it back.

the rain might not be good for traveling but it's great for running, as i tried to salvage part of the day. unfortunately as soon as i stepped outside, it stopped raining. and when i got back home after the run, the clouds all but disappeared as the sun came out.

my mother dropped by briefly with some homemade chinese dumplings. i fell asleep on the couch and woke up to some dinner with the red sox. the hometown team turned out to be a bad dinner guest as they continued their losing streak and got swept by the minnesota twins.

my 4 set "three kingdom" translation finally arrived today. printed by a chinese press, it has a strong newsprint aroma. featuring hundreds of characters, it reads like a chinese version of the iliad, except its written in prose.
