the ebb and flow of work: today was a low tide sort of day. while i did sit in front of the machine for quite some time, i couldn't get myself to do anything productive. after a cream cheese bagel for breakfast, i rode out to market basket to buy the ingredients for tonight's dinner, prosciutto & cantaloupe on focaccia bread (with brie and arugula). i actually got the recipe from an episode of everyday italian i saw a few months ago. i couldn't find any focaccia (checked 3 different places) so i went with sour dough bread instead.

the weather looked like it'd rain for much of the day but improved later in the afternoon when i went out for a run. coming back i caught bruce hanging out in his home office and together we checked out our neighbor jeff's newly painted pistachio green house. after a shower i went to the cafe to deliver another external hard drive case for my father.

when julie came by in the evening i made the sandwiches; the recipe calls for a sandwich press but i improvised and used a foreman grill instead. i never had prosciutto with cantaloupe before but it actually tasted pretty good, salty cured ham mixed with sweet melon plus the peppery spice of arugula held together with melted brie cheese. the yankees were beating the red sox which compelled us to change the channel and watch a frontline documentary about sex slavery in eastern europe.

that blackout i've been dreading since last night still hasn't happened yet. another false alarm.
