i caught the matinee of david chapelle's block party in the early afternoon. it was pretty funny and if you're a fan of his show, you'll love this movie. i know this is a concert film but i sort of wished there was more comedy and less music; even when i watch his show, i usually change the channel during the music segment. i think i just don't know many of the artists; people in the crowd were mouthing the words to the songs and i was just straining just to understand what they were signing. now if chapelle ever does an 80's band reunion tour, i'd be all over that. i saw this late middle aged white guy in the audience - the aging white liberal who shows up to let others know how hip he is to people other mixed races - who was pumping his head midway through the movie, "getting down" to one of the songs. all i could think of was, "man you better pace yourself otherwise you'll tire out!" and sure enough, he wasn't rocking afterwards.

i spent the rest of the day over at dan and cymara's place. john and deanna were in town to visit new baby clarissa, and eric was making a cameo as well, bringing down 2-year old ilona. i was nursing a flask of blue tarantula and we had pizza for a late lunch. in the evening, well after eric and ilona had gone home, we played mario tennis and ordered chinese food for dinner.

we left around midnight, with john and deanna staying over at my place for the night. deanna had the guest bedroom while john made himself at home on the couch. we watched some saturday night live (natalie portman) before calling it quits.
