nstar didn't show up until 6:30pm - i was surprised to see the guy, i figured i'd have to wait another day. down in the basement, he figured out the problem to be something electrical, the power to the furnace not properly grounded, or perhaps the polarity switched (he had this cool pen that lit up red whenever it detected an electric current). he couldn't do anything unless i got an electrician to fix that problem first, so looks like tomorrow i'll be searching for an electrician ($$$), and at least a day or two before i can get some heat in the house. i apologized to my exchange student, but he didn't seem to mind the cold, figured that's just what the temperature is like around here. i hope he gets to experience some heat before he returns to taiwan.
making headway in migrating my site to the new webhost. got the mysql databases up and running (thanks to some ssh commands) as well as my php scripts. still trying to figure out an easy way to copy over the rest of my files from the old site to the new site (there's probably some sort of command line magic i have yet to discover). once that's done, i'll switch my DNS addresses. i'm going to be able to do a lot more at this new place: 4.8gb of storage (versus my current 2gb) and 120gb bandwidth (versus my current 50gb) - and it's $3/month cheaper. i wish i had some snazzy redesign to coincide with the move, but most people won't even notice once it happens.
