anyone here in the boston area who has an air conditioner probably installed it by now. this "heat wave" is just too much, and i thought i could ride it out until the weather cooled off, but this afternoon my father came by and helped me put in my air conditioner. heat i can handle but combined with the humidity, i just wanted to crawl out of my own skin. the one that i have is an old model, large and heavy, and other than during the summer season it usually sits idle in the basement. installing the AC is more art than science, an ugly stack of wood, cardboard, and styrofoam insulation, as we precariously balance that heavy metal block on the edge of a window. once in place however, and with the AC turned on, the place quickly cooled down, and all was well again.

in the daylight evening my family (including my aunt and uncle) came over for dinner. my sister left before my travel slideshow. i'm still not sure how to narrate my trip, or if it's even possible. there are my postings on the weblog, but that's just the surface (and some entries are just photos, giving you just a glimpse with no explanation). at any one time i can only give excerpts, i hope that's enough. and wait, did you want to see photos? sorting through 47,000 photos is a bit of a challenge.
