i today i rented a "xeom" (motorcycle and driver) and took a tour of the city, saw city hall, the rex hotel, notre dame cathedral, reunification palace, tran hung dao statue, the war remnant museum, two markets, the post office, the opera house, saigon trade building, the saigon river, and 5 temples/pagoda (many in the cholon - chinatown - area). there was some contraversy as to how much my driver should receive for his services - he said US$10, i told him i only had US$5 (although i did treat him to lunch, and i suspect he took me to a friend's place, because it was the most expensive meal i've had since coming to vietnam, but i didn't say anything until we were finally negotiating the fee). later, in the evening, i hooked up with a pair of british girls and an american boy and we sat outside in some bar drinking and watching the prostitutes (male and female) canvas the streets. oh saigon!
