last night i slept in the guest bedroom, hoping to escape the hungry fleas that have taken up residence in my own bedroom. it was cold, i had only a thin blanket to keep my warm, but it was well worth it if i could keep myself from getting bit. when i finally woke up, i was dismayed to see that i got a bite on the top of my foot; looks like the fleas have found me.

when i looked outside i was surprised to see how much snow had accumulated over night. without a doubt now, winter has arrived early to new england. first order of business was to vacuum the house. next, i heated up another can of soup, chicken rice gumbo. while letting it cool over the stove, i went outside for the only time today to shovel the sidewalk (fulfilling my daily exercise quota to some small extent). it took only a few minutes, and the snow was more slush than powder so it was easy to scrape off. i ended up doing a random act of kindness and shoveled my next door neighbors' stretch of sidewalk as well. the rest of the day i did two loads of laundry and organized my clothes, played some diablo, downloaded some tunes, and baked a pound cake. i made some shake & bake chicken for dinner while watching master and commander on HBO. never seen it before, i think someone told me once that i'd like it because the doctor in the movie is a 19th cenutry naturalist.
