a day of nothingness. too cold to be wandering around outside, not motivated enough to do anything constructive at home. i also had no freelance work. just woke up and let the hours trickle by. i watched a lot of daytime television. it got to the point where i was taking photos of the television. i think that's a bad sign.

i had some leftover chili for lunch. ever since i got the new electric toothbrush, i love brushing my teeth. you see how low i've sunk? the highlight of my day was brushing my teeth. no, wait, maybe it was taking a shower. maybe that's the second highlight. i got my trash lid back with no apology. it was all crumpled up but i managed to pop it back into shape, although still a bit mangled. i went out for a run in the late afternoon. temperatures must've been in the high 40's, it was brisk, i was cold at first dressed in nothing more but a t-shirt and some shorts, but i warmed up by the time i got to harvard square from my house. people were practicing on the river for the head of the charles this weekend. with the weather getting cold, there was hardly anyone else running. the only people i bumped into were groups of college kids jogging in unison to warm up.

after a shower, i got dressed and rode the motorcycle down to MIT (making sure i wore 4 layers of clothing), where adam smith was giving a presentation about imaging lingo at the MMBUG. about a dozen people showed up, a few i knew. i was surprised to see alex kates there, then got another surprise when michael rogers came in. i talked digital camera with bob, this freelance programmer whom i worked with back when i was with SRM. i also saw jack, another freelance guy from my SRM days, he was just about to get married when i last saw him a few years ago, and now he has a baby daughter. his boss was there, whom he introduced me to, and i got a business card, so maybe a potential job opportunity. see, i'm not all about sitting on my ass at home watching television all day! i'm out there networking, meeting people, i'm doing my part during these dark days of renewed unemployment. anyway, adam's presentation was pretty technical, but the imaging lingo demos were really interesting, to see what kind of cool things you can do with the code.

the motorcycle ride wasn't that bad with layers. i could see my breath whenever i stopped at the lights. it's almost november and i'm still riding, which i've never done before, but this season has been the most riding i've done. the weather next week will be in the 50's, so i can still keep the bike for another week at least. right now i'm just at the limit of my cold tolerance: it's already kind of uncomfortable, and if it gets any colder, i have to put the bike away for the season. the astros-cardinals game was just starting when i got back home. i microwaved a chicken pot pie for dinner and watched the game, not really caring who wins.

maybe i'll cook something tomorrow! that'll give me something to do.
