"i will set my hair on fire if they come back and tie it," i told rob as we watched the final inning of the rain-delayed red sox yankees game. "i will chop my head off," rob added. and then it happened. mariano rivera walked trot "yankee killer" nixon, who was replaced by dave roberts to pinch-run. jason veritek struck out, but that gave roberts enough to steal to second. then rivera hit kevin millar with a pitch to get him on base, replaced by the much faster gabe kapler to pinch-run. when orlando cabrera came to bat, he got a rare hit off of rivera, which scored roberts for the tying run. i was screaming and jumping so hard i almost passed out. "where's the matches?!" i shouted. "if the red sox win, i'll set my hair on fire and burn the house down!" i promised. kevin youkilis struck out. then johnny damon came to bat. johnny damon, who at the start of the game hit a homerun off of el duque, was the hero when he got a hit off of rivera to score cabrera. that still left the bottom of the inning, but closer keith foulke was able to dispatch the yankees for the save. for the second time this season the red sox were able to rough up rivera; he just may be mortal after all. it was an amazing game, and the one that seemed to be most important yet the one that the red sox was least likely to win, with the uneven pitching matchup between el duque (a perfect win record with the yankees this season) and charles "deathwish" bronson arroyo with his fabulous corn rows. el duque was mysteriously pulled from the game after the rain delay, while arroyo went on to pitch a few more innings. sure, he gave away 2 homeruns, but that's pretty good considering the offensive yankee powerhouse. even manny ramirez managed to pull an incredible "in the crowd" defensive catch to steal a homerun from miguel cairo. now the red sox are only 2.5 games behind the yankees. i hope there will be a few restless yankees fans tonight, tossing and turning in their sleep, thinking about this game as well as the next two games against the red sox.

i was in the office for half the day today. before i left i went to the atm to cash a check and get some pasta for lunch. when it looked like there weren't anymore bugs for me to fix, i decided to leave. i made a quick run to renata's place to drop off some trail maps, before going to the cafe to pick up the gps from my father. outside, i saw he had planted the miniature pine trees he stole from the forest. when i came back home, i wanted to go running but felt too lazy to go back outside. instead, i parked my ass on the sofa, within easy reaching distance of food and drinks on the coffee table, and watched television until the baseball game. rob came back home along with his ex-girlfriend jane, who showed me her cool new digital SLR camera. she left soon afterwards. for dinner, i had a toaster oven baked french bread pizza, then later on, after the game was over, some ramen from a cup.
