i decided to take another sick day. it's been a weird week. i took 2 days off and worked 3 days. the 3 days that i worked, i only worked 6 hours, which isn't bad considering some of those days i wasn't feeling well enough to be working in the first place. i wrote an e-mail to everyone at the office letting them know i wouldn't be coming in today and then made 3 poached eggs and a smoothie. i decided to go watch a movie, the rationalization being that it'd be just like lounging around at home resting -- except i'd be doing it in a dark movie theatre surrounded by strangers watching a film. i made my way down to fresh pond, stopping by cvs to get some drinks and cough drops. the weather was cold, i pulled my hoodie tight around my head. if i only had a car. none of this public transportation and walking and climbing down the side of a hill and running across a busy parking lot in order to get to the theatre nonsense. the movie i was seeing was hellboy.

hellboy was an entertaining science fiction action film, visually enticing with spots of humor. born through a nazi experiment with the black arts, hellboy (ron perlman) is a demon discovered by the US military and raised under the protection of a hidden organization over the decades as a secret weapon to fight other supernatural evils. hellboy appeal is the fact that even though he is this huge red demon (with horns that he has to file down), he's also very human, even down to his unrequited love for fellow pyrokinetic girl liz sherman (selma blair). the best part of the movie? the evil nazi assassin with a gas mask for a face. that guy's a bad ass with knives, probably one of the best villains you'll see all summer (i know, it's only spring!). worst part of the movie? a couple of plot holes. why is rasputin's girlfriend from 1940's back in the 21st century, having looked like she hasn't aged a day? they never explained that. and with all the conjured demons and their eggs in both new york city and russian (how did they get to russia?), how did the team make sure they exterminated the problem? overall, i enjoyed the film, and if they made a sequel i'll definitely go see it.

i couldn't wait for the movie to be over, by the final 20 minutes i had to use the bathroom so badly it was inhibiting my ability to enjoy the film. when the credits started rolling, i scissorwalked to the facilities and stood with another fellow for a full one minute, that awkward silence that happens to guys when they stand peeing next to each other. i left the theatre and quickly made my way back home (2 stops from alewife), buying some gerber daisies at porter square during the transit.

i decided to take my disease fighting regimen to a different level by hitting the teas. i made some jasmine tea with a couple of tablespoons of honey mixed in. i noticed nobody from my office was online anymore, perhaps people taking friday off a little early. my mother and sister came by after work to bring me food, a bowl of beef noodle soup, and they also stuck around for dinner. after they left, i took a hot bath (taking the entertainment weekly pop culture quiz) then went straight to bed.
