last night did not go well. just non-stop coughing, i couldn't fall asleep. it was a long night. at 4am i thought about going to the emergency room of the hospital, get some real medicine (antibiotics), because i didn't feel i was getting any better, and if anything, i thought it was getting worse. then suddenly something happened. the final few hours of sleep was peaceful. no coughing, no congestion. it was spooky. when i got out of bed i resumed my coughs but they were different now, as i spat out globs of phlegm with each cough. this is perhaps the beginning of the end. the cleansing phase of disease, where my body, after a successful immune system response, is flushing out the "toxins." for the disease to run its proper course though, i figured it was probably a good idea if i called in sick today.

so for most of the morning i'd run into the bathroom every 10 minutes to cough and spit into the sink. i did that so much that eventually i stopped coughing altogether once my body rain out of phlegm. my eyes were even more bloodshot than yesterday, it looked like i've been crying for a week. blowing my nose had the same satisfying "cleansing" effect as well (although it did pop my eardrums), as i felt the germs leaving my body finally. i ate a little bit, a pair of microwaved chatsuo buns followed by some orange juice. i took a hot shower, then went to bed again around noon. i watched some old bruce lee movie on AMC (warrior's journey, the one where he wears the classic yellow jumpsuit and fights kareem abdul jabbar) before falling asleep.

i woke up 4 hours later. there was a mild breaking news on television, the discovery of that missing college girl who apparently was kidnapped. there was also some more killing of american civilians working in iraq, something about their charred remains being dragged through the streets and hung from a bridge. iraq, the new vietnam. what a mess. i would like a republican to explain to me why they think the current administration can do a better job than what it's doing now.

around 8pm i had dinner, the rest of the meatballs from yesterday with the last mantou roll. relax a little bit more, get ready for bed, go to work tomorrow. the "exercise" will do me good, i feel cramped up spending the whole day at home. i think my dry cough is returning though, hope it won't affect my sleep tonight.
