wanting another crack at making the perfect belgian waffles, i whipped up another batch of mix and threw it down on the iron. second time around i fared better, but the iron i have isn't the traditional "deep dish" variety, so the waffles will always be somewhat flat. what i really want is one of those cast iron wafflers, forged into the shape of some medieval torture device but actually used for making tasty breakfast treats. next time i'm going to cook some sausages as well, something salty to balance the sweetness of the waffles.

my mother came by my place after she got out of work, and put up a curtain on the doorway between the foyer and the living room. i didn't care for the idea at first because i thought it'd darken up the place, but having the curtain there definitely shields the living room from the poorly insulated front door. my mother also brought a copy of the rosenoff report, where it showed the 3rd floor condo next door is currently under agreement. new neighbors! that'd explain all the guys that've been hanging around next door (they looked like a group of alt twentysomething men), and i think they had the inspection a few days ago because people were walking around the house. later in the evening my father came by as well, and i had dinner with my parents. food decisions come so effortlessly for them. when i cook, i know it's a whole big production number, but for them, it's like three snaps of the fingers and viola! dinner is served. they did drink some of my leftover mushroom soup which they said was very nice but i think they were just trying to be polite. we ordered that hot sliced beef dish we always get from zoe's. they both left before 8pm.

after another exciting but too brief episode of alias (alice over sydney? vaughn, you better dump that clinging girlfriend of yours before sydney falls into the arms of will! irina, please be good! please let my dream of the bristow spy family working together to come true! sydney smooches marshall? he's a dog!), i was in serious work mode (i'd been in work mode all day, but now this was serious), putting in the final coding push on a alpha for a project. i listened to 99.1 FM, which was playing wall-to-wall mellow christmas music. instead of sitting on a hard dining table chair, i moved one of the comfy armchairs into the bedroom. i need a new mouse though, that plastic mouse that came with my $220 PC is a POS, double clicks when i just want to single click, i lost a lot of productivity because of it. four hours into my work, i got some hunger pangs so i made myself a cup of instant ramen with a side dish of heavily fermented kimchee. 3 more hours into the extended evening, with my work nearly done, i suddenly decided that i wanted to finally crimp the last two ethernet wires and fully connect my now-seemingly-working router. with the ibook i tested in the guest bedroom, then it was in kitchen on the dining table (where i played with the DMZ zoning allowing my ibook to become a webserver). i could've gone wireless, but there's enough ports scattered throughout the house that i can access the internet from virtually anywhere. i can imagine long lazy summer nights just outside enjoying the weather, surfing the web on the back porch.

i didn't go to bed until 6am. i counted in my head the number of hours i could sleep before i'd have to wake up again to do more work. i actually didn't feel sleepy, and briefly toyed with the idea of forgoing sleep. but then i closed my eyes and before i knew it, i was unconscious.
