excuse me for being tired: i went to bed last night at 2:00 only to wake up at 5:00 to watch the royal wedding on television. afterwards i went to belmont where my father and i dug up a medium-sized clump of bamboos from the middle of the lawn. it would've been easier if it weren't for the fact that bamboos have a tendency to spread underground so we ended up uprooting all the remaining rhizomes (running in a star-shaped pattern), making a mess of the lawn. later i went with my sister and hailey to wingaersheek beach for the 2nd to last day of beach running. more photos and descriptions forthcoming!

all the major networks were covering the royal wedding this morning. earlier in the week the forecast predicted heavy rain for friday but the weather was good (good for london anyway) and at one point the sun even broke up briefly from the grey sky. first the guests filed in. look, it's elton john! and there's impossibly handsome david beckham! then the family members. fergie's daughters arrived sporting garish headgear; a plot to steal some attention away from the bride perhaps? fergie was of course not invited to the wedding, and reports were she was in thailand (bangkok is a good place to escape). kate followed prince william. the most striking thing about kate middleton is her smile. those amazing teeth! which goes against popular british stereotype.

i was glad the ceremony began with the exchange of vows. i was pretty impressed that the royal couple held it together, but at several points you could see kate clenching her jaw to keep herself from crying. as the crowds marched to buckingham palace lead by horse-mounted police, the thing that interested me the most were all the different digital cameras being raised up in the air snapping photos. once the wedding was over, there was a long wait for the official royal kiss off of the buckingham palace balcony. their official title will now be the duke and duchess of cambridge. i'd love to get a t-shirt of that and wear it around town!
