weather was quiet for a change, and there was even some sun (actually, just some brightness filtered through the overcast, but it felt like the sun). off and on throughout the day there'd be a bit of light rain, but the promise of snow never came.

my father dropped off some lunch, a bento box of "lion head" meatballs and wood ear mushrooms. later in the afternoon i went down to the post office to mail off that defective toner. cost of parcel shipping: $10.

jesse was back in town but i couldn't motivate myself enough to go all the way down to jamaica plain for her get-together. instead, an evening of olympics and pasta salad awaited.

i received a $150 bill from mass general hospital today. it was for some stuff i had done when i broke my foot in that motorcycle accident back in 2008. the notice was from an MGH doctors' union, which seemed suspicious because i've never heard of it before, but it looked legitimate enough, so i called them to ask what was going on. apparently blue cross - my old insurance - decided not to pay for some more things. the man on the phone told me that health insurance companies have a right to retroactively rescind payment as far back as 3 years. so next week i have the pleasure of sorting this mess out.
