just like last sunday, i was down at the cafe this morning trying to get the network camera to work. i put the 2nd router (acting as an access point) on the same network as the main router, hoping that'd fix the port forwarding issue, but it didn't. finally i decided to deactivate the DHCP server on the main cablemodem/router, hoping to turn it into just a modem, but that thing had a mind of its own, still serving ip numbers even after i turned off that function.

i called comcast asking them for help, and the technician told me something i didn't realize: i actually don't have to use the hybrid modem-router-combo that comcast provided. this is good news because i have a few spare cablemodems i can install instead, thereby simplifying the network setup. however, it was already getting late, so it's a to-be-continued.

i rode to belmont where i found my mother doing the laundry. i was in the basement digging around for nothing in particular; the place is a treasure trove of 80's nostalgia. i found a long-lost gardening book that i'd replaced a while back. when my sister returned home from walking the dog, she and my mother went to the burlington mall to return some stuff and to do some grocery shopping at h-mart.

after dinner it was already raining, so my father gave me a ride back to cambridge with my bicycle in the back. hopefully the few hours it spent outside getting soaked washed the salt from the bike.
