this saturday featured plenty of eating and sleeping. i finally busted out the gorgonzola cheese my roommate 3-roommates-ago (the cheese-loving roommate) left behind. not as good as the fourme d'ambert, but good enough with some table crackers. i figured cheese gets better as it ages, but this particular cheese was a bit crumbly (i like my cheese with a butter-like consistency). i also stewed the leftover rotisserie chicken from a few days ago to make some chicken broth to go with my rice noodles.

i planted the amaryllis dennis and susan gave me last night. besides the large bulb, it also came with a plastic pot and a compressed potting mix puck. instruction said to add 2 cups of warm water and wait for the puck to expand. i was amazed by how much potting mixture came out of that one puck, enough to fill the pot. it's not really soil, but rather some kind of peat moss that smelled like pine mulch. the amaryllis prefers a warm location (65-75°F), but my house never gets that warm during the winter. hopefully leaving it in the sun of my southern-facing back window will compensate for this. in 6-10 weeks, a flower will emerge.

originally i was going to bike into boston for some cheap haymarket produce. even though it was warm (40's), with the light rain falling i decided against it. i bounced around a few tv channels until finally deciding to watch from bed until i fell asleep. i woke up when it became dark, figuring maybe it was 5:00 or 6:00. i was surprised when i saw the actual time, 9:30. apparently i was more tired than i thought!

i didn't think i'd be hungry with all the cheese and rice noodles i consumed earlier, but i was, and heated up some more rice noodle soup for dinner.
