i found myself in belmont watering the garden in the early afternoon. it gave me a chance to see the squash blossoms, which i've only seen in their closed forms. there was only a single open flower and there was something strange about it: it was square. maybe it's a singular mutation, i'll have to see a few more flowers before i can be sure. square squash flowers are definitely not normal; normal squash flowers are star-shaped.

back home at the community garden, i gave my plot a good watering despite the fact that it's an eyesore. something big went through it recently, knocking over a tomato cage and trampling a basil plant. maybe a coyote? i heard one's been spotted in the neighborhood. the only bright spot was a single nasturtium flower. i need to keep it alive so i can collect some seeds for next year.

the weekend calls for some domesticity. after a shower, i did a load of laundry. had a craving for something salty so went across the street and got some potato chips from star market. for dinner, some dan dan noodles with some homemade kimchi, a plum and cherries for dessert.
