i finally got around to cleaning out my two fish tanks. their last cleaning was more than 6 weeks ago. i started with the 10 gallon guppy tank, which is the easier one to clean: your basic algae scrub, filter medium replacement, and then water change. i also did a head count, 12 guppies. the 7 gallon minibow is a bit more challenging to clean due to the layer of pond scum on the aquarium surface and all the java ferns. i took out the ribbons of elodea, rinsed them in the sink, and moved them to the guppy tank. the elodea seems to attract algae for some reason. i also took out all the java ferns - growing from two pieces of driftwood - and gave them a good scrubbing in the sink. the head count in the minibow is 2 neon tetras, 3 glowlight tetras, and 1 cherry barb.

it was raining this morning. the hissing outside told me i wouldn't be going anywhere again today. i had a turkey & mustard sandwich for lunch, and some more frozen chinese dumplings for dinner that my mother dropped off when she visited me in the late afternoon while waiting for my aunt to finish with her laundry. i watched crash, that 1996 david cronenberg movie about people who get off on car crashes. cronenberg is one of the few remaining weirdo directors. two others come to mind are david lynch and john waters. lynch hasn't done a major film since 2001 mulholland drive and john waters has been MIA cinematically for a while as well. it's up to cronenberg to carry the mantle of fringe cinema.
