sophia's advisor sent her an e-mail this morning saying he'd come by in the late afternoon to drive her down to new jersey. in the meantime she repacked her suitcases and finished all of her food in the fridge. while browsing craig's list to pass the time, sophia came across a casio digital camera for sale for only $30. the problem was the seller lived in lowell. even i was impressed by her audacity when she tried asking her advisor (who lives in andover) to go buy the camera for her before coming to cambridge to give her a ride to newark. despite the repeated calls, he never bothered to answer his phone. i was hoping i would be able to see sophia off before she left, but by 4:00 her advisor was still a no show. sophia was starting to make alternative plans to take the NYC bus tomorrow morning (for her monday evening flight to london) when finally she got in touch with her advisor, who now said he wouldn't arrive until 8:00. i said my tentative good byes to sophia before leaving her at my place while i went off to belmont to have dinner with my parents.

it started to rain heavily just as soon as i arrived in belmont, followed by intermittent periods of sunshine. afterwards i went back to cambridge with the receding storm clouds. even though i got home before 8:00, sophia had already gone, returning the front door key through the mail slot. a part of me was sad to see her go. as much as i enjoy living alone, i also like the conversations, as infuriating as they may be, talking with somebody who always has to be right and exhibiting a few undesirable personality traits. i will of course not miss the drama though. i was amazed by how efficiently she cleared out, folding all the blankets and comforters and discarding all the used linens in the washing machine. not even a single piece of food in the refrigerator that isn't mine. the only thing she left a waste basket full of trash in the bedroom.

it didn't take me long to get back to solo living mode again, watching television in the living room in my underwear and using the bathroom with the door open.

watched the season finale of breaking bad tonight. once again, i can't really talk about it for those who still haven't caught up with the series. suffice to say, a thoroughly explosive and shocking ending, maybe more so than last week. in trying to make a better place for his family, walter white has essentially ruined the lives of everyone who's come in contact with him. can't wait for season 3.
