weekends are for sleeping in but mine was cut abruptly short when i received a call this morning from my father saying the contractors were on their way over. i wasn't expecting them until sunday or monday, so it came as a surprise. i snapped out of bed, got dressed, and waited for them to arrive. my father showed up before they got here. a father and son team, the son's job seemed to be holding the ladder, smoking cigarettes, and text messaging. my father was the go-between but returned to the cafe soon after they started working. they fixed a rotting edge of the roof, caulked a few leaks in the gutters, and replaced a 2nd floor windowsill. the original estimate seemed like a bargain but after seeing how little they did, $500 seemed excessive (although technically i'd only pay 40%, my share of any condo renovations). for general work they're okay, but they're not very good on the details. the windowsill is a case in point: they set it in too far and slightly uneven. it's not a big deal but i'm afraid my upstairs neighbors will be less forgiving. maybe they should've picked the contractor instead of leaving it up to me then. the contractors also suggested some additional work, replacing the small roof on a 2nd floor bay window that's currently nothing more than a rusted sheet of metal with some exposed wood peeking through. price? $450. less than what i paid today but seems so much more difficult. we're also considering these guys to re-stain/paint the house come spring, but seeing the level of their work today, i have my reservations. it all depends on my neighbor. if he's fine with it, i'm fine with it.

the contractors left a little bit before 3pm. i'd been supervising the whole time and finally got a chance to get something to eat. i mentioned the bicycle to my roommate, told him i already replaced the tire. he said he would've gone with me and paid for the repair (oh snap), and asked how much was it. i told him it was nothing, and said the bike was old enough that the tire would've need replacing anyway (true). hearing the news that his sweet ride is now working again, i figured he might go out (leaving me with some me time) but he stayed home the whole day, watching television from his room, reading the k-land book i got for him from the library.

i went to bed last night at 6am and woke up this morning at 10am. so no surprise i was really tired, and went to my bedroom to take a nap in the early evening. i didn't wake up until almost 11pm, had some ramen for dinner.
