the weather today was sufficiently dismal. not only the rain but the thick clouds transformed day to night. at least it's not northern and western new england where it snowed today. i was fighting my demons again, only working for a few hours, spending the rest procrastinating. at least i didn't break out the vacuum and go around the house cleaning again. my casio watch band arrived today (yes, i've been ordering watch bands for all my broken timepieces) and i managed to replace that one without any problems. i don't even remember where i originally got that watch, but i've had it for at least 10 years. it has an analog face with a second hand but what i like about it is it also has an illuminator light. i actually have two of these watches, the second one i do remember buying in akihabara electronic district in tokyo in the late 90's. i asked manny - who now lives in swinging pennsylvania - who he was going to vote for. i got the sense he was leaning mccain, which got me all mobilized as i realized i had less than a week to change his mind (he won't be home election day so he's voting via absentee ballot).

i watched the first game of the celtics 2008-2009 season tonight. they had a ring ceremony beforehand, and paul pierce couldn't restrain his emotions, tearing up the whole time. celtics were up against the cleveland cavaliers, a team they beat in a 7 game series in last season's championship playoff run. both teams went hard, as if they didn't even take a summer break, starting right where they left off. celtics ended up winning it in a close game, renewing the rivalry.
