a very rainy friday so i didn't mind being inside all day working. one of my contractors decided to pay me a visit in this pouring rain. an elderly gentleman, his wife drove him in the minivan. i asked if he wanted an umbrella, he said no while getting completely soaked. i showed him where on the house needed repairs, he said he'd come back next week, when it wasn't raining, to get a better look. in the early evening i managed to work in some resident evil time.

big event of the day was the presidential debate between mccain and obama. i actually thought mccain came out ahead. as far as substance, mccain was basically repeating the lies of his campaign against obama, how obama wants to raise taxes for all americans and how obama wants to have unconditional talks with foreign dictators. mccain always seemed to be on the offense, with his smug smile and his repeated "senator obama doesn't understand," while obama kept on having to defend himself. after the debate was over, i checked out some of the news channels for some post-game analysis. i was surprised to hear the general consensus had obama coming out ahead. despite his defensive position, obama managed to counter every question effectively. the weirdest thing was the fact that mccain never once made eye-contact with obama during the entire debate, preferring instead to just speak into the camera, despite the insistence of the moderator to get him to engage obama directly. i wonder how that'll play out in the swing states?

my roommate shared his portable external hard drive of pirated movies with me tonight. they were mostly american movies but all had chinese names so i didn't recognize any of them. the american movies don't interest me as much as the few k. films on the drive which i will investigate when i have the time.
