first order of business this morning was to continue patching up the damaged ceiling areas with another layer of ceiling paint. i wasn't optimistic that we'd be able to completely fix it but after the paint dried, it looked good enough that i couldn't easily tell the difference. next we planned on priming the windows along with the fireplace (using an oil-based primer). while prepping the fireplace, my father discovered that the preexisting oil paint had separated, leaving a layer of white film on the surface while a hard shell remained on the bottom. he had no choice but to wash off the film before sanding everything down to get the proper adhesion. i was given the task of painting the windows, but i decided i wanted to tape the panes first (to minimize the clean-up afterwards), so that took the rest of the day. my sister helped briefly, when she wasn't trying to pick out the room colors. i went to the cafe afterwards to get some food.

some more sunflower photos from the garden:

back at home i realized julie was already back from her vacation. i actually saw her online last night but figured maybe her cat accidently turned on her computer. later in the evening she came over with wings and showed me her 1000+ slovenian vacation photos with side trips to venice and amsterdam.

last night i was successfully able to upload songs onto the 20mb worth of storage space on my motorola KRZR (adding a microSD card will expand that storage a bit more). it took a while because the software i downloaded from verizon wireless wasn't properly installing the driver for the phone. after some searching i finally found a patch that fixed the problem. another thing i didn't realize was the pc-to-phone connection is initiated from the phone side. only when a connection has been made can i start to transfer my songs. the music plays surprisingly loud from the miniature speaker, like a tiny radio, but i wonder how long the battery will last until. my next project is hacking the phone to recognize my tunes as ringtones.
