spent the past 3 days in the khao yai national park, far away from any sort of internet access, despite the fact that i have a stack of exotic tropical jungle wildlife photos to upload. i saw gibbons, a serow, malaysian sun bears, sambar deers, civet cats, python, several different species of hornbills, bulbuls, pig-tailed macaques, wrinkled-lipped bats (several million),giant forest scorpions, giant millipedes, scarlet minivets, buffy fish owls, many different beautiful butterflies, maybe an otter, a blue-eared barbet, and who can forget those always-friendly jungle leeches! no wild elephants although we did see tracks, and trails, and elephant poop the size of cannonballs.

arrived in bangkok today, one of those "where the hell am i?" as i walk around in circles like a headless farang with all my bags strapped to my back. finally i gave up and took a taxi, had to fight with the driver to turn on his meter even though he was insistent that we ride with it off. i got dropped off in khao san road, the backpacker slum, and immediately detested the place, congested with foreigners. i booked the first hotel i could find, but hours laterfound another one (farther away) that i'll be moving to tomorrow.

this week, i'll get my myanmar visa, fix my open-ticket times, then leave for burma.
