i rode over to lynn's place this morning for a macintosh house call. she wasn't able to open some attachments, and turns out the problem was she didn't have microsoft word installed. once that was done, i went to SRM for a day of debugging. i didn't leave the office but i heard the weather was nice. oh well. maybe next year. i ordered the batch lunch with everyone else, turkey on foccaccio bread that scraped the roof of my already-sensitive mouth. i threw in an extra hour of work today, but was still unable to resolve one last bug, a nasty untraceable malfunction that would every now and then crash out a portion of the program. because of that, and because there's a delivery going out tomorrow, i will have to work some hours tonight, exacting one last fix where i combine two separate code sources into one. it's not going to be pleasant and i'm not going to get a good night's worth of sleep.

after work i went down to the kendall cinema to catch nicotina, that mexican crime caper filmed in real time (here in town for just one week). the picaresque movie had a multi-threaded storyline and a fast-paced style, in the same vein as pulp fiction and snatch. if you liked those movies, you'll love this one. voyeurism, computer hacking, diamonds, shootouts, fear of dogs, russian mafia, it's all in there, with "nicotina" being the plot device that advances aspects of the story and holds other pieces together. those in the boston area who are interested, you have until the end of tomorrow to catch this movie, otherwise rent it when it comes out on dvd. highly recommended.

i came home and saw the end of the red sox game, victorious against the devil. rob was in his room whitewashing some old canvases in preparation for painting. i ate the leftover burger and sausage, feeling guilty when i realized rob didn't have dinner yet (he'd end up going to bed unfed, that's how he stays skinny, besides the smoking).
