i went to bed last night at 6am and woke up 6 hours later at noon. i could've easily slept some more but i didn't want to sleep through the rest of the day. i microwaved some chatsuo meatbuns for lunch. my roommate came back home, then left again with a book, only to return minutes later with some food, eating it in his bedroom. after what i believe is the amount of time required for food to digest (1 hour), i got dressed and went outside for a run. i saw some neighbors doing some early spring yard work. it wasn't as warm as yesterday, but 55 degrees is nothing for someone who's been running outside all winter. i hurled myself along the usual 3 mile circuit around a section of the charles river. my sweaty hair bounced up and down with every step. the grassy shores of the river was covered in blue glory-of-the-snow and yellow daffodils. after the run i dropped by the real estate office then came home, coughing until i throw a ricola into my mouth. i saw (from the rosenoff report) that there was a condo for sale on my street, the exact same square footage but priced at $395k. unfortunately i'd missed the open house, but it's just another example of how crazy the real estate market is in cambridge. from the shoes in the foyer i could see my roommate's girlfriend was in the house as well. i grabbed some change of clothes and took a shower. i turned to the red sox yankees game on NESN, the red sox were down 3-7, and would eventually lose the game. a minor setback, hopefully they can win tomorrow, the last game of the series. i put outside the jade plant bonsai renata had given me, hoping the warmish weather could revitalize it. i don't know if plants are good presents, especially given my recent black thumb streak. though not as bad as giving somebody a dog or a cat as a gift, plants do require a bit of time and care.

originally i planned on going to belmont for dinner, until i realized that mike and his girlfriend weren't home. they must've slipped out when i was in the shower, no wonder they were so quiet. before my parents and sister came over however, i had to go next door and help renee with some computer problem. she didn't exactly ask me to come over, but she stood on my doorstep and probably wouldn't stop talking until i helped her. she was all freaked out because the underscore marks she made in her excel tables were disappearing whenever she highlighted the cell.

i tried to explain that it was just a visual quirk, that her underscores weren't being converted to spaces. it took several tries before she finally believed me. i left as quickly as possible. my parents came over with ingredients to make homemade wontons and we had wonton soup for dinner. my father helped me organize some of the stuff alex gave me before he left for japan ("this box is for computer cables, this box is all office supplies, etc."), and i let him take whatever he wanted from the spoils. after dinner, we had some of my spoiled strawberries, followed by some orange givrées, and the last of my flan (which my parents shared).

after they left, i watched the sopranos and alias followed by some band of brothers. no adriana tonight! she didn't get whacked off-camera, did she? can alias get anymore soap opera-ish? now we find out sydney has a stepsister who's not only "the passenger" foretold by the rimbaldi prophecies but the father is actually arvin sloane. i predict the show has maybe another year left. i don't think the stepsister ploy is jumping the shark yet, but i'm starting to wonder. if lena olin comes back as irina next season, it could save the show. i loved the part where david carradine's character gets killed in tonight's episode though. two dramatic deaths in two different mediums, it must be david carradine weekend or something.
