finally the insufferable heat has stopped! temperature today dipped 20 degrees, a grey overcast coated the sky, and there was some rain. i spent most of the day with my father buying supplies at costco (the new one by the mystic river) and bj wholesales. i'm looking to buy a rechargeable portable power supply to be used with my telescope so i can go out into the field - i didn't find anything i liked though. when i got home at about 4pm, i quickly heated a can of campbell chicken soup and had that for lunch, before heading back out for a run at 5pm. unfortunately it had stopped raining, i really wanted to run in the rain. there were plenty of puddles to splash in however. i was surprised at how fast i was running, but i cramped up over the eliot bridge and slowed to a walk before continuing again. 70 degrees is a good running temperature, but i keep on thinking i'd like it better if it was in the 50's. i was in a running groove, got to a point where i felt like i was on one of those moving sidewalks, i was cruising. i noticed a cherry tree with red berries, and further down (along memorial drive) there's a mulberry tree, which i've actually eaten from before. i wish there were more fruiting trees along the bank of the charles river, that way runners can feed themselves when they get hungry. things like apples, pears, and an assortment of berries should be grown there. i ate dinner late, a box of fried rice my mother had brought over before i left the house for my run.
