the first half of the day i was fixing project bugs and securing some social plans for the next few days. the second half i made thai red curry again for dinner. missing some ingredients, i went across the street to the supermarket to buy some groceries. because i thought i was a bad ass, i didn't bother grabbing a shopping basket, but instead carried everything in my arms, which the more i shopped the more i started to realize it was probably a bad idea. paying for my stuff, there was a hispanic woman working the register. seeing that i had bought a few habanero peppers, she said to me, "oh, these are good for you!" i smiled knowingly. i chopped up the ingredients -- red bell pepper, green habaneros (fingering out the seedy cores), shallots (crying as i chopped), garlic, mint, lemon (only because i can't find lemongrass), lime, beef (instead of chicken) -- and threw them into the pan while a cup of basmati cooked in my rice cooker. i finished just in time to watch the gilmore girls. the verdict on the red curry? i think maybe i put in too much curry paste, because the taste was a little bit sour, i probably needed another tablespoon of sugar to balance the flavor. the shallots was probably an unnecessary ingredient, and i don't know whether that had anything to do with altering the taste, because when amy was over and i made this red curry, it tasted much better. the coconut milk i used might've been too thin as well, i think a thicker milk would make it taste better. i'm going to keep on making it until i get it right though.
