went to the supermarket today to buy $30 worth of groceries before coming back to the house to make an omelette for lunch (by then it was already 2pm). i love chopping up ingredients. that's something i'm getting better at the more i cook. as for the actual act of cooking, it's more of a hit or miss. omelette? hmmm, i wouldn't exactly call it that. it's more like a loose federation of independent states kind of omelette. kind of crumbly, nothing really sticking together. i also made two much, and took me two rooms to finish it, eating it first in the kitchen, then moving into the living room to finish the rest.

i squeezed in a little bit of freelance lingo in the middle of my day, catching some good tunes on one of the college radio stations. my new favorite song is "superhero" by local boston band pagoda red, which surprisingly you can download for free from their website, www.thepagodaredtownship.com. the song's got a terrific guitar riff.

i made some thai-inspired sausages for dinner. the ingredients called for ground pork but i only had beef, hot curry paste while i used hot thai paste, and peanut oil when i only had vegetable oil. i formed a dozen "sausages" but when i cooked them they started to crumble, leaving me with half a pan of shredded ground beef. the final result was also a bit sour, i'd put in too much freshly squeezed lime juice. i had to eat them with some celery sticks to counteract the strong citric taste. i'm not discouraged though, i like to think that i'm learning from my mistakes as i go, and eventually one day i'll get it right.

after dinner i went to the supermarket for the second time today to pick up some boxes of soda. the trip back was an exercise in upper body strength, as i carefully walked home, making sure not to slip on the icy sidewalks. i swear, when i get a job, if i have money left over after paying for the monthly mortgage, i need to get a car.
