eliza switched from the production department to the project management department a few weeks ago, and today she finally moved downstairs to be with the other project managers and ap's. later during the day we get an e-mail from management saying that they'd like to see everyone moving back downstairs, just like in the old days, to bridge the upstairs/downstairs divide, to bond fellow co-workers. all i could think about was, ohmigod longer waits for the bathrooms! it'd definitely liven things up a bit, but i worry about where everyone would sit. can we fit everybody on one floor? i feel like production is getting the shaft somehow, because they were the ones forced to relocate when we had the space upstairs, and now after they seem to have settled down, they're being relocated once again, back downstairs, and not in their original spaces either, but wedged into the sprinkling of available work areas throughout the downstairs office. as much as i'd like to see everyone reunited, i'm also very much concerned about overcrowding. i think we should just shut up a couple of webcams upstairs and downstairs so we can see each other virtually, but not actually be together physically.

matthew brought in his new baby son today, jackson (whom everyone in the office called "action jackson"). babies scare me. i don't think i have that natural instinct that find babies adorable. i find them scary and fragile and demanding too much of my attention and loud and quite often dirty. i have no maternal or paternal instincts. i wish i did. maybe it's just lying dormant. i wish something would trigger it so i can feel more connected to the rest of mainstream society that can't get enough of babies. i find animal babies cute, just not human babies. maybe i'm one of those people who's destined to never have children, but will end up owning a lot of dogs. i'm sort of fine with that fate.

lunchtime amanda and i went out for a run. it was asterisked of course, but i did manage to introduce amanda to the wonderful world of jewel weed and their marvelous popping seed cases that explode when you touch them.

after work i went with my mother to go see that condominium for sale on prince street in cambridgeport. this was my second visit, first visit for my mother. i realized today while waiting for our broker to arrive, that i actually live just a few houses down from laurie rogers. what are the odds of that happening! if i poke my head out the window, i can probably see her if she does the same! can i borrow a cup of sugar? if i did buy that place, i'd have an instantaneous neighbor that i already know. when the broker finally did arrive and we went upstairs to see the space, i wasn't as impressed with it as i was 2 weeks ago when i saw it for the very first time. in 2 weeks i had a lot of time to think about what kind of apartment i want to get. this condo on prince street, the location is excellent (7-10 minutes walk to central square, 7-10 minutes walk to the charles river, and did i mention ms.laurie rogers will be my next door neighbor?), the asking price for the property is very cheap considering it's a two bedroom apartment. what i don't like is the high condo fee (almost $300/month), that the living room faces north (so it's kind of dark there), there's no parking space, and there's no fire escape (although it does have a second exit that leads to an alternate route out of the building -- but i'd use the fire escape for bbq's). the apartment will go up for another open house this sunday, with a new lower price ($9000 lower), which might make it more attractive to prospective buyers. i'm not going to make any decisions this week, but hopefully this sunday i'll go see some open houses, and if i don't find anything else better, i think i just might go for this one on prince street, call up the broker early monday morning and make an offer to buy the place.
