amanda and i reached the 3 mile mark of our lunch time run (memorial across mass ave. bridge down storrow across longfellow), which is the start of the longfellow bridge. i didn't feel tired at all when we finally got to 3 miles, i felt i could run more. the run was slightly asterisked because amanda slowed down to a walk for about 10 yards by the halfshell, but we ran over 99% of the way. the actual 3 mile marker was also contested. i thought 3 miles was to the beginning of the bridge, but according to dan, 3 miles is across the bridge. wednesday noontime we're scheduled for another run, but we might have to miss it in order to go watch ray bourque's comeback celebration at city hall.

allie's ibook came today and i made a special trip upstairs just to see the new machine. the design is so clean and simple, makes you wonder why other laptop makers aren't doing the same thing. the new ibook is small too. you can easily slip that into a bag, or maybe a large purse if you're so inclined. when i first saw it, it reminded me of those makeup kits you can buy in department stores. the latch for the closure is triggered by a magnet. when the lid approaches the closure, the latch is drawn out through magnetism -- cool! first thing i did when i opened up the machine was to test out the layout of the keyboard, pretending to type something ("hello my name is tony yang"). no problems, the keys didn't seem cramped (although i suspect this is one of the things people might complain about, but that's the tradeoff when you have a smaller laptop -- you get a smaller keyboard!). next, i took a big whiff of that new machine smell. i was surprised when paula informed me that the machine actually came precharged and ready to go, so we turned it on. the new ibook comes with os x preinstalled on top of os 9. paula and i without hesitation rebooted to dump the system into os x. the touchpad and button seems more responsive than the usual g3 powerbook (but it could be just new machine hype) -- i sort of wished maybe there could be two buttons instead of the standard apple one button. this new ibook is definitely droolworthy though. if i had $2000 to burn, i'd definitely get it over the titanium powerbook, which boasts a bigger screen and faster processor speed, but you save a few grand when you go with the ibook instead. i would like to see it in some different colors though, and rumor has it macworld expo nyc end of this summer will bring out a few different color choices other than white. allie, you are so lucky, i envy you so much!
